Dr. Patty Murphy is Associate Provost for University Accreditation and the University’s accreditation liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The Office of University Accreditation ensures the University’s effectiveness in fulfilling its mission and safeguards its accreditation status by fostering excellence in all of the University’s academic programs and administrative services.

• Academic Planning

  The Office of University Accreditation supports faculty and staff in the development of new programs or academic units, changes to existing programs and academic units, and closures/inactivations of existing academic programs or units. • Assessment@UM

  The Office of University Accreditation provides resrouces and guidelines for the assssment process and hosts an internal website to view results of the University's assessment processes. Visit their website for details.

• Accreditation

  The University of Miami is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award bachelor's, master's, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees. The University of Miami also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. The University of Miami's accreditation was last affirmed by SACSCOC in 2018. There are no recent accreditation actions against the University. The next review is in 2028. Visit their website for additional information.

• State Authorizations for Distance Education

  The United States Department of Education regulation 34 C.F.R. §600.9(c) requires institutions to meet any state requirements to legally offer postsecondary distance or correspondence education in states where they are not physically located. The authorization requirements, as well as application processes, vary significantly from state to state.

  The University of Miami is an approved member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) which is recognized by 49 states and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  The University of Miami is not required to have state authorization in California which is not a member of NC-SARA.
